The Async Research Facility is the building in which the Async Research Institute conducts its experiments. It is the main building of Async and also the only known building where the organization operates. The exact location of the building is unknown, but it is most likely either in San Francisco or in Santa Cruz. Besides the government and the Department of Energy, it is not known if more people or organizations know about it.
Layout[]
From the outside it looks like a large white building with dark blue windows. The Async logo is clearly visible on what is likely the front of the building.
A little more is known about the inside. The building appears to have a large number of rooms and long corridors, including medical examination rooms, laboratories, generator rooms, employee locker rooms, presentation rooms and numerous offices. The three most notable rooms are the main control room, the Threshold, and the observation room, which are all located in the underground section of the building. Async is in the process of expanding their building within the Backrooms, as they built the observation room first, and later started to put up more structures to make the complex suitable for storage, which is also their main purpose. At the same time, however, it seems that they are trying to hide or protect themselves from the dangers of the Backrooms or possible wanderers, as they occasionally replace an empty section of a Backrooms area with a makeshift wall.
