Backrooms - The Third Test is a horror short film, and is the second video and second chronological video in Kane Pixels' Backrooms series. It takes place before the events of Backrooms - First Contact and after the events of Backrooms - Prototype. The film is about a failed experiment to open the Threshold into the Backrooms.
Plot[]
The video begins with a low-quality robotic voice giving information regarding the Async Research Institute and the Low-Proximity Magnetic Distortion System, the third test of which has just happened. Though Async’s goals for their project are unknown, vice director Ivan Beck offered clues in a press conference in April of 1988, in which he said the project aimed to provide a solution for all storage problems and asked for government funding.
Throughout the “speech,” blueprints, pictures of equipment and Async personnel, and a sketch of the Threshold, the main part of the System, are shown. In addition, a fragment of text is briefly shown, which says "facility...o resinst...eir prog".
As the voice fades out, footage of the aforementioned third test begins. Async switches on the System in an attempt to open the Threshold at 3:17 AM on July 2, 1988. Though the test initially appears to be a success, with the Threshold opening to reveal bright golden light, it soon spirals out of control. Alarms blare as sparks and golden lightning shoot out of the Threshold and other machinery, causing the test to be ended. After the camera cuts to black, mechanical sounds can be heard, implying that they are trying the test again.
