The Still Life[1] is an entity that appears in The Backrooms - Found Footage #3 and serves as the main antagonist of the episode. While not much is known of this lifeform as of now it appears very hostile and sounds almost human-like.

History[]

The origin of this monster is currently unknown; however, they seem to have resided in the Backrooms for a while.

In April the 19th of 1995, Ravi fell into the Backrooms and stumbled across a dimly lit decrepit space littered with books and garbage. As he looks into a square hole in the corner of the room the entity causes a brief cacophony of sounds from within the darkness. He flees before it comes face to face with him, but continues to pursue him, shutting off the lights to its room. As Ravi leaves and closes the exit door behind him, the entity makes its way to it and knocks on the door, only to then proceed and break the door down to chase Ravi.

Ravi makes his way to a room consisting of a wall that leads to another room with a building, playset, bench, and other outdoor objects. As he looks on into the room below, the entity makes its presence known by seemingly breaking down another door. It follows Ravi into the enclosure where it lets out a human-like wail. He manages to escape it again before it discovers him.

Later in the footage as Ravi finds a radio and attempts to make contact with anyone. He walks past the room with speakers in it to another green-carpeted room to explore. Suddenly from the speaker room, another cacophony is heard. As he goes to investigate, the entity stands up and bolts towards him, letting out horrific cries and wails. It crawls into a hole to catch Ravi but is stopped as he barricades the hole.

Appearance and biology[]

While the lifeform's appearance and details are hard to make out due to the low quality of the footage and uneasy camera movements, the Still Life resembles that of a human seemingly either covered in a black and white substance or wearing clothes of the same colors. It seems to also be around the same size and height as a normal human.

It appears to act very animalistic, wailing in unnatural ways, similar to that of the other Lifeform. However, it also seems to let out a very human-like yell. It's currently unknown if this lifeform and the other one are related to each other in some way.

Trivia[]

  • This is the second humanoid entity to appear in a Backrooms episode.
  • The name "Still Life" likely correlates or is derived from a painting genre of the same name, depicting inanimate object, natural or man-made.
  • Based on the name of the entity as a reference to the Still Life Paintings, Film Theory theorizes that the Backrooms itself tries to replicate everything from Earth but "off", even humans.
  • The cacophony heard when Still Life appears is Do You Like Air Conditioning by Kane Parsons.
  • Originally, this entity was vaguely depicted as a "Humanoid Lifeform"...

Notes and Theories[]

  1. The entity can be theorized to be related to the Lifeform, as it sounds very much identical to it and bares some physical similarities, seemingly covered in a black mold-like substance, which the lifeform is associated and theorized with.
  2. The entity might be an attempted recreation of a human.
