The Loma Prieta earthquake occurred on October 17, 1989 at approximately 5:04 PM, along the San Andreas fault. 63 people died, with 3,757 getting injured and 25 people going missing. The earthquake took place within the same time Async began running a test on the Low-Proximity Magnetic Distortion System, the earthquake caused a temporary power outage, ultimately leading to the system to sustain damage which eventually led up to it opening the Backrooms.
