Marvin E. Leigh, nicknamed "Marv", is a scientist working for the Async Research Institute. He is the main protagonist in Backrooms - Pitfalls.
Biography[]
Marvin works as an explorer of the Backrooms. On February 29th, 1990, he well as, George, Ronald and Peter, the former camera operator, went on an expedition. Around an hour into the expedition though he and his team realized Peter had disappeared. After that Marvin became the camera operator.
Marvin went on another expedition into the Backrooms on May 6th with a team of three other researchers, Mark, George, and Kim to capture more footage of the Backrooms. While the others were fixing equipment, Marvin went to look around on his own before they all started exploring a yet unexplored path with the red guideline behind them.
The team found a room made entirely of square pits with a door on the other side. Mark successfully balanced to the other side and saw what was behind the door. Instead of telling the others what he saw, he urged Marvin to get the camera over there. Marvin reluctantly and cautiously started walking over, but one of the lights flickers, appearing to warp the footage for a few milliseconds. This startles Marvin, causing him to lose his balance and fall into one of the pits.
The hole was at an angle and came out of a wall in a new area. Marvin landed on the floor and luckily was not seriously injured. The hole was too high for him to reach, so he asked his coworkers to send down the guideline. They had already tried that and it was too short, so George went to get a tether.
Marvin suddenly heard a loud scream from another person coming from deeper within the area. The others became confused. Despite the wishes of his coworkers for him to stay and wait by the hole, Marvin went to investigate. He saw a red light coming from a small gap at the end of a corridor. He crawled through and found a brand new area of the Backrooms that looked like a suburb, with houses, streetlights and a paved road.
The screams came from a house at the end of the road. Marvin walked in and found a blue room with inverted street signs coming out of the carpet. On the other side of the room was a narrow corridor. He walked through it and started to lose his radio signal. On the other side was a new place that looked like a garage with fraying yellow paint on the concrete walls. It seemed like someone had been living there, because on the floor laid shoes, a backpack and two flattened cardboard boxes. The signal recovered and the team became even more confused.
Marvin heard the yelling again from behind a corner and shouted back. The screams did not actually come from a person, but from a strange and hostile creature. It noticed that he was there and the screams became a horribly distorted howl as it started to chase him. Marvin quickly realized that it was not a person, screamed in terror and ran for his life. Luckily, he got to the hole in time and his coworkers threw down the tether. He climbed up, took a breather and ended the tape there.
Later, Marvin and his team met Anthony Dawkins and handed over the footage for review. Prior to Marvin's findings, Async had no knowledge of the hostile creature. Several more safety precautions were set up after that.
On May, 25 1990, Marvin, along with Mark Blume, Randall Tachi, and other members of Async went back to the Backrooms to investigate the pitfalls room, also known as "Room 14D". After a rover ride which proceeded to rediscover the pitfalls room, Mark, Marvin, and other researchers go investigate Room 14D, along with installing plywood over the pitfalls except for the hole in which Marvin fell in. Presumably to learn more on what else the hole has in it.
Soon after, Marvin, along with Mark armed with a firearm and Randall conduct an exploration of a nearby dimly lit area designated by Async as "Room 14C." As they reached the new area with the use of flashlights, Marvin points out a tiny hole in the wall. Marvin and the team continue through through Room 14C when one researcher discovered a drawn map of the area that they were in, Mark attempts radio contact with A-Team at the pitfalls room but was receiving no signal.
Marvin along with the team walk back to try and receive a signal, as Marvin talks about turning back around when they do receive a signal, Peter Tench suddenly attacks Mark and grabs ahold of his firearm. Peter then demanded that they answer his questions then he will go away, Marvin tries to answer one of his questions, to which Peter recognizes Marvin's voice and explains that everyone thinks that he is dead."
After Marvin reveals that there was a funeral for Peter and telling him to put the gun down, Mark receives a radio signal from Team A to which Marks says that there is a hostile man pointing a gun at him. Marvin and Peter keep telling Mark to stop talking, but Peter said he was sorry as he shot Mark with the firearm, leaving him in critical condition. Peter tells Marvin to tell the other members that he is still alive, Marvin drops his camera from the blast but picks it up and runs towards Mark's body to see if he survived. Marv shouts “Mark Mark! Can you hear me?” Marvin hysterically tries to tell the unconscious Mark that "Everything will be okay..” as Randall is heard calling for medical help to 14C “Team A come in, we need medics to get here” then the tape distorts and ends.
