The Oldest View - Beneath The Earth is the second video in the The Oldest View series. It was uploaded on May 15th, 2023.

Summary[]

The episode starts with a young adult named Wyatt. He is a YouTuber and is recording a video for his fans because he has something cool to show. He is currently on his way to the area not mentioning the place it is called; he only says it is a park. He wants to avoid mentioning the name of the location of where he is going, since it is far into private property.

He continues his walk to the location. Upon arriving, he shows that he found a hole/tunnel under an oak tree. At first, he thought it was a cave, but looking inside, he finds a staircase descending deep into the Earth. Looking down the staircase, lights are Illuminating it. Looking at the stairs from where he just entered through the hole, he says that these stairs look like they used to go up further. Overall, what he says he finds the most weird is the fact that the lights are on, which means that the place is still active despite the entrance, as he says, being low-tech, referring to the fact that the entrance is just a hole in the ground.

He decides to go down the stairs, which go on and on. And as he goes down the stairs, he talks about how there is no rainwater. Even though for the past couple of days it has been raining quite a lot and it's dry as. None of the stairs are covered in water or are even wet. As he goes deeper, he mentions the smell of Cut Grass, which you get after you mow the lawn.

As he reaches the bottom, it's dark, and he finds an old looking wooden door. It looks worn down; it has no handle to push or pull the door. On the other side of the door is a room covered in bathroom tiles that look old and worn down, and there is also a metal fence gate that is locked halfway from closing. It's also worn down and old-looking, covered in rust; he can also hear music playing. It was the kind of music you would listen to in a mall; it had no lyrics, no singing, just calm, happy music.

As he crawls under the fence gate, he enters an empty room and finds one of those roller fence gates that shops use to close stores inside of a mall. He looks out the window and sees an empty shopping mall with no people. He then asks himself if he's not sure if he can upload this video on YouTube, and the video ends.

Trivia[]

  • Surreal Environment: The mall setting at the end is the most surreal element. Despite its familiar nature, it's jarring due to its emptiness and the incongruity of its location. The calm, happy music (usually a sign of life and activity) contrasts eerily with the desolate environment.
  • Modern Exploration: Wyatt's medium of exploration (YouTube) is a nod to how exploration and sharing have evolved in the modern age. Whereas once discoveries were penned in journals or shared in stories, now they're uploaded online for mass consumption.
  • Timeline: The Rolling Giant (The Oldest View Part 3) took place shortly after May 22nd, 2023 (presumably the next day), in which Wyatt also mentioned that the incident from this video took place "a couple days ago". This places the date of Beneath the Earth around May 21st, 2023.
