Wyatt is the main protagonist of The Oldest View, appearing in Beneath The Earth, The Rolling Giant and Dispersal.

Biography[]

In May 2023, Wyatt ventured to a park, far from civilization, and stumbled upon a hole under an oak tree. Initially thinking it was a cave, he discovered stairs leading deep underground as he recorded the experience.

While recording, Wyatt noticed strange things like the stairs looking like they used to go higher, lights still being on even though the hole is in the middle of nowhere, and no rainwater, despite recent rains. As he went down, he even smelled freshly cut grass. As he descended, he grew quieter.

Eventually he reached the bottom, and he found an old wooden door with no handle, leading to a worn-down room with bathroom tiles and a broken gate. After crawling under it, he reached an empty room with a roller gate, looking out a window to a deserted underground shopping mall. He then comments that he's not sure if he can upload this video on YouTube, and nervously laughs before ending the video.

A couple of days later, on May 23rd, he makes a follow-up video to update his viewers on the events since the last upload. He hasn't revisited the stairs but frequently checked on the hole. Following a viewer's advice, he set up trail cameras he borrowed from his former botany teacher around the hole. Although the cameras didn't capture anything significant near the hole, aside from a deer and grass moving in the breeze.

He goes on to say that in his last video, he ended it because he was worried about tripping a quiet alarm and running into people, so he left and went back up the staircase. He intends to return to the hole after his lessons to investigate.

He mentions the smell of cut grass as he nears the bottom of the stairway once again, describing it as similar to a cornfield smell. He opens the wooden door and walks into the still-dark outlet. Then he walks over to the roller gate and opens it, but it slams open at the top of the frame and makes a loud noise which alerts him and runs back to the stairwell but returns to the mall after a few seconds of realizing there's nobody there.

Later, he discovers a sign identifying the mall as Valley View Center at Dallas Midtown. As he explores, he finds numerous art studios. In the mall's center, he encounters a gigantic puppet with a disturbing face and flower-leaf hands on a moving cart. The mall comes to life with lights and music as he approaches the puppet.

Due to the lights turning on being so sudden, he attempts to leave discreetly, but Wyatt finds the staircase blocked by rubble. Realizing he needs to find another exit, he spots a red exit sign leading him deeper into the mall. Along the way, he discovers art displays and leaves on the ground. Reaching the end, he finds the exits to lead to solid rock.

Returning to the center, he hears thunder, sees lights flicker, and notices the puppet displaced. As he investigates, the giant vanishes near an escalator. Searching for an exit on a directory board, he explores another section, finding a kid's area. Discovering a roller fence gate to Midtown Artist Studios, he somehow sees a forest beyond.

Wyatt notices noisy wheels behind him on his way back. When he looks back, he is startled to discover the giant immediately behind him. He approaches it and says hello, believing that someone is probably moving it around. When he realized there was no one there, he began walking back while keeping his gaze fixed on it. He eventually turns around to continue walking. Running towards an escalator, he looks back as the giant rolls away.

Planning escape, Wyatt runs down the escalator, pursued by The Giant. Finding an exit blocked, he enters a shop, rushes to its back, and enters maintenance corridors. Hearing windows smash, he exits through another shop, avoiding the giant. In an office, Wyatt finds a mall map with an emergency exit at AMC Level. Returning to the mall, he finds it transformed, with flora covering the floors. Music and thunder return.

Approaching an escalator, The Giant ambushes him and Wyatt dashes to the second escalator on the other side. Going up several more stairs, he notices a sign directing him to the emergency roof exit. He realizes he'll have to balance on the edge of the walls at the mall's tallest point.

Before continuing, he notices The Giant ascending the escalator. He asks him what he wants, and the lights begin to flicker as The Giant turns slightly and flashes dead horses and dead human carcasses on the floor, which freaks Wyatt out.

Wyatt avoids The Giant's body as it slams into him, but it breaks a nearby wall. Wyatt then makes his way to the rooftop emergency exit. He makes his way to the exit gently, trying not to tumble. He turns for a second to see The Giant rolling to the other side. And as he reaches the exit, we get a glimpse of what appears to be the same staircase we saw at the beginning, but as he places his weight on the metal support beam, it breaks and he falls to the bottom of the mall, he screams and we hear the phone reach the ground.

The screen goes black, and the next thing we see is Wyatt's seemingly dead body. He's shown in the same state as shown in The Oldest View - Renewal where everything is monochrome aside for the color green. The scene shifts, and we see the giant's face in the distance behind some woods, while thunder can be heard in the background. The video fades to black and it ends.

In contrast, in The Oldest View - Dispersal, Wyatt reaches the stairs before the metal support beam breaks, and he's able to escape. Later shots depict him going through the woods until he reaches his car and is able to drive away.

Trivia[]

  • He's portrayed by Kane Pixels, similar to his role as himself in The Backrooms (Found Footage).
  • Given that the trail cam pictures date to May 21st and May 22nd, it implies that the events in this video take place on May 23rd, which also coincides with the real-life demolition of the mall.
  • His decision to return to the mall demonstrates a classic human trait: curiosity, combined with a drive to understand the inexplicable. This mirrors countless explorers or researchers in history and literature who, despite the risks, are drawn to uncover the mysteries of the unknown.
  • In January 2023, Wyatt switched from studying botany to business. And The Giant represents Julien Reverchon, who was a botanist.
